Tips right from professional drapery workrooms!
Learn the newest draperies & valances seen on TV and in decorating magazines. Designs for every room of the house. Some no-sew options will be featured. The truth is, experienced sewers are usually the most frustrated at drapery making. They can sew almost anything yet their curtains can't even hang straight. That's because the easy construction process uses principles that are the exact opposite of traditional sewing procedures - that have nothing to do with sewing!

  • You'll learn: Easy techniques guaranteed to cut up to 80% off your production time. (I'll show you how I can measure and press ten feet of hem on a drape in less than two minutes!
  • How to ensure perfectly straight curtains: Why is it that you can measure, cut, sew and press your fabric accurately, and yet a curtain will hang a little crooked? Four easy principles show you why!

  • How to substitute professional workroom equipment with items from your own home: You're not going to go out and purchase expensive equipment for just a few jobs - you'll love the substitution tips.

  • If you never mastered how to use the blind hem on your sewing machine, you'll see how easy it actually is!

  • Learn to make a stunning style from every major category with information to adapt to any look you ever see again. Styles change, procedures don't! My tips will be used for years to come, no matter what new styles you see.

  • Skill Level: Minimal to no sewing skills, no decorating experience necessary.

Bring a camera for take home ideas.

$15.00 supply fee for instruction book.

Course fee: check with the school board you are registering with or Dessert & Decor Events for Decorating Coach Classes.

How the Class Works
Styles are taught by lecture and demonstration. How can this be done? Because ALL draperies start as a rectangular piece of fabric. The sewing skills required are minimal to none. Susan will lecture, giving you her tips from her drapery workroom experience; she'll demonstrate how to easily put the looks together. You'll get to ask whatever questions you want to, as well as practice on any technique you feel unsure of.

You'll learn a look, or several looks, from every major category. That way you'll be able to copy new styles as they come along in the future.

Category 1: Gathered style draperies (balloon shades, and more)

Category 2: tailored style (Roman valance, box pleat, harlequin, simple shapes, and more)

Category 3: Full length draperies (grommet headers, tab-style, and more)

What Students Like Best:
Definitely the professional tips that show you how to cut hours of monotonous routine. If you've ever had to measure and press ten feet of hem or ten feet of rod pocket, how long did it take? Some say hours, I can do ten feet in two minutes - and I'll show you how to do the same!

Others love that they learn so many styles in so short a time - all with a professional quality look.

Remember - with all my classes, you get full contact information to reach me later. If you run into a snag, need a little coaching, you're not alone when you leave the class.

Susan's Favourites

I love the grommet drapery. It’s the hottest thing in window coverings right now, featured on all the latest TV shows. Long drapes are definitely in again. The best part is that the grommets don’t need any equipment to pop in, they’re reusable, and the drapes hang even better than pinch pleated ones used to.
