Déco Grommets
How to make Grommet Draperies
Make the HOTTEST window coverings seen on HGTV and in every drapery magazine - drapes, valances, and more. Why are grommet style window coverings so popular?
- When a curtain rod is inserted through the grommet rings, it forces the curtain to fall into beautiful, even folds. Draperies look even better than pinch-pleated drapes ever could because of the uniform S-shape design that forms when mounted onto rod. Grommet draperies are way easier and faster to make than pinch pleated drapes because all you have to do is sew a rectangular piece of fabric, not measuring and forming of pleats, yet you get that stylish, professional look.
- The grommets on the window coverings glide effortlessly across a regular rod, a perfect style for any window that requires the curtain to regularly open and close. (Great for replacing those tired verticals on patio doors!)
- Easy to install into fabric. The grommets do not need any special equipment. Simply cut the holes in the drapery following instructions for spacing then snap the rings onto fabric - using only your fingertips. Grommets securely hold fabric and are even re- useable for other projects later.
What makes our Déco Grommets unique? Some stores sell a cheaper knock-off version which looks almost the same in the bag. However, the grommets cannot hold the fabric properly, tend to be difficult to snap together and then “pop open” later. Our grommets are supplied by the professional drapery industry and are able to hold 2 – 3 thicknesses of fabric, plus stiffener or lining if desired! Grommets are made of sturdy PVC plastic with grips on inside both rings to hold several layers of fabric securely.

Need extra help after you’ve purchased our grommets? You’ll receive a set of instructions, however, you can still use our on-line support service and we’ll gladly guide you through the process. We’ll also talk on the phone with you as well if you’d like.
Stop, Watch and Do
Our video also covers step-by-step instructions on how to make a grommet drapery. This is an invaluable aid if you are planning to make any style of full length window coverings. Click for information on “How Professionals Make Draperies”.
How many grommets do you need?
2 bags of grommets fit an average size window. 1 bag a small window, 3 bags a large window. How to calculate: width of fabric divided by 7” (grommets are spaced approximately 5” apart, each grommet is just over 2” in diameter. Use an even number of grommets). Full instructions of how to measure and install grommets come with purchase. There are 10 grommets per bag.
Recommended fabric fullness for draperies:
Use the same fullness as you would for a pinch pleated drapery:
Valances: 2 ½ times fullness
Drapery that will be open most of the time: 1 ½ to 2x fulness
Drapery that will be closed much of the time: 2x fulness

- Follow directions to cut out holes where grommets will be placed.

What Susan has to say
I taught pinch-pleated draperies for years and have loved the look. Long draperies are in again, big time, and I’m so exited that the style can be achieved with an easier, quicker method. Best of all, the look is even better than the pinch pleat version. Now that I’ve been making grommet draperies, I just can’t make pinch pleat any more
When audiences at tradeshows see how easy the grommets pop in, I tease that I’ve been giving them some false advertising. While the grommets are easy to work with, the harder part for some is actually measuring and cutting the drape itself. I highly recommend you check out our video, Click “How Professionals Make Drapes”.
If you don’t need a grommet drapery but you want the look of a pinch-pleated drape, I recommend using the grommets, even if you’re going to have a valance on top that will cover the grommets. It’s just so much easier to make a grommet drapery than pinch-pleated drapes, and the look is far superior.
What others have to say . . .
“I can’t believe how easy it was to install the grommets. I’ve worked with small grommets before, I kept hitting my fingers with the hammer and the grommets kept popping out. I hated it. With the Déco grommets I just snapped the grommets together with my fingertips.”
Ruth Maynard
“I have arthritis and I couldn’t believe that I could easily press the grommets into the drapery fabric. I love that you can also pop them open and re-use them for another project later.”
Miriam Tyler
“I need more grommets . . . again! My window coverings look so good, all my family and friends are getting me to make drapes for them”.
Betty Redman
“I’m not a sewer but all I had to do was hem a rectangular piece of fabric and pop in the grommets across the top. The video was invaluable as well. So easy but the look is so good!”
Jo-Anne Wilson
“I’ve hated my old verticals on my patio door. I made a beautiful grommet drapery and I love the way it easily opens and closes.”
Diana Sanderson
“I love the grommet draperies and it was so good to be able to watch you make them as a bonus feature at the end of the teaching!”
Betty-Ann Fillinger
“I’ve seen the grommet draperies on so many HGTV shows but couldn’t find the grommets anywhere, I’m so glad I can get the professional ones through you.”
Sue Carter
“I wanted a really different color for my grommets so I just spray painted them pink for my daughter’s bedroom curtain. Looks great!”
