What is the difference between Staging & Decorating?

Staging works.  Every realtor has stories of clients who didn't like  houses shown them, that had almost every element on their wish list.  Every realtor has stories of clients who bought a house that was nothing like they'd described.  They'd maybe dropped by out of convenience because the listing was in the area.
By the time a prospective buyer is choosing between your home and three or four others, the final decision boils down to emotions (even though they don't realize it).  Square footage is not about numbers, it's, "can the family fit in the dining room for a holiday meal?"
It's, "this bedroom 'feels' so nice!".  It's, "Oh, I just looove this place, I don't care if I have to give up something..."
The seller who recognizes how buyers respond to the "feel" , is gong to sell their home first.
NO detail is too small to go unnoticed.
There is little difference between staging and decorating.  A beautiful room is a beautiful room.  Staging takes the re-decorating principles, and follows them through a little further: anything to make a room look larger, less distracting, etc.

Re-decorating involves using mostly what you have to turn drab rooms into model home looks.  You'll learn how to draw the eye to the best part of every room.  If your room doesn't have a 'best',  you'll learn how to make at least one area of every room .

What Susan has to say . . .
Working with clients over the years taught me an important principle that is the basis for my teaching:  most of the mistakes in decorating are made over and over again.  In other words, pretty well EVERYONE makes the SAME mistakes.  Realtors have asked, "Susan, how can you possibly go into any home and immediately see the changes that need to be made?"   Yes, I do have the ability to see a room in a totally improved context.  But, one of my biggest secrets is that after years of experience, even before I enter a client's door, I know 75% of the improvements that are to be made!!

The reverse is also true, just as almost everyone makes the same mistakes, there are principles to be learned from those who know how to do it right.  Years ago, I decided to study model homes.  I'd not just admire the rooms, but analyze why they looked so beautiful.  I concluded that no matter what the style of the decor, from traditional to contemporary, the very same decorating principles were being applied over and over.

"Copy and Paste" . . . You can copy what I've learned, copy the ideas I show you from the many room layouts I feature.  Copy, and then apply the principles to your own decor.  It's like taking me me home to decorate with you.  The two books on CD will be your ticket to a better home in days!
